Introducing MIBS: Safe, Convenient and Effective Body Shaping

We are excited to introduce the concept of Minimally Invasive Body Shaping (MIBS) to our lexicon of treatments. The aesthetic world historically offered two extremes of services. On one hand, you had lotions and potions that are externally applied and simple to use. On the other extreme, there was surgery, which is invasive and often complex. Fortunately, technology has advanced, and we now have options that provide significant results without the risks of traditional surgical options. These minimally invasive body shaping procedures, MIBS, include: laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo® Triplex™, Precision Tx™ lift, and Cellulaze ™), fat transfer, CoolSculpting®, Kybella™, and SculpSure™.*

In the facial aesthetics world, a wide range of minimally invasive options have already become commonplace. The science of topicals has advanced to the point where we know what can safely diffuse through the skin barrier and reliably make positive improvements. BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers, and lasers allow us to make noticeable, incremental improvements without the risks and complications of surgery, and, when done well, offer natural-looking results.*

A similar level of treatment choices is now emerging in the aesthetics body shaping world. It has been a bigger challenge to find these technologies. Because we are working deeper under the skin, it can be harder to access the targeted areas. Topical creams and lotions are appealing, but can’t penetrate deep enough to create a change in the fat and body shape. Surgery allows us to get to the area of concern, but we have all seen unnatural results. Also, the expense and associated health risks of surgery have motivated both patients and providers to seek alternatives. MIBS are emerging and allowing incredible results without the risks. Additionally, they offer increased safety and convenience.*

Dermacare has been preforming laser-assisted liposuction and fat transfer for more than five years. Through tiny, quarter-inch incisions used with local anesthesia, all of these procedures can be easily and safely performed in our office. We have recently upgraded our technology, so that we can now tackle cellulite with the Cellulaze™ procedure. CoolSculpting® was added to our repertoire 18 months ago, and we have seen very nice results with this externally-applied device, without injections or incisions. Last year, the FDA approved Kybella™, a simple injection that dissolves fat. This is approved for use in the submental (chin) area. It will be interesting to see what other pockets of fat this technology can be used for in the future. Finally, SculpSure™ was FDA approved and released a few months ago. Like CoolSculpting®, this technology has an external applicator, but instead of freezing the fat (like CoolSculpting®), SculpSure™ uses a laser to heat and melt the underlying fat to enhance the shape of the body.*

The concept of MIBS increases the number of body shaping choices that are safe, convenient, and effective. It also creates an option that may best fit your goals and needs. We will be reviewing these new technologies at our February 17th Open House. This is a great opportunity for you to see some demonstrations, talk to people that have had MIBS treatments, and learn enough to make the best possible decision. We look forward to seeing you there!*
